Three islands

The islands of meeting, love and parting

Locals fondly call Pakoštane's three islets the islands of meeting, love and parting. We circle all three, each with its own story above and below the surface.

Babuljaš

Babuljaš

The northernmost of the three, tufted with pines and ringed by white-pebble shallows. Archaeologists have lifted amphorae from its seabed, and today those same shallows gather the shoals we follow through the windows.

Veli Školj

Veli Školj

The middle islet of our route. In the channel beside it rests a genuine ancient shipwreck from around 400 AD, amphora cargo and all. As we glide over it, the audio guide tells you what happened that night.

Sveta Justina

Sveta Justina

The islet with the 17th-century chapel of St. Justina, patron of Pakoštane. Towards the mainland an ancient submerged breakwater, the 'Roman road', runs beneath the sea; they say someone still walks it at night.
